An avid chamber musician, Schuyler is passionate about getting out into the community to perform new and lesser-known chamber music works with his colleagues. He has performed chamber music at public and private schools in the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area, Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, Enoch Pratt Free Library, Baltimore County Public Library, Austin Minnesota Public Library, Baltimore VA Medical Center, The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore Penn-Station, American Visionary Art Museum, Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, for the Baltimore Symphony Musicians Subway Series at the Charles Center Metro Subway Station, and in a trio representing the Baltimore Symphony in collaboration with University of Maryland and Sound Impact for the Voices of Prince George's County program at Bowie Branch Library in Maryland. Additionally, Schuyler is a frequent performer on the Community Concerts at Second Chamber Music by Candlelight series in Baltimore, where he has collaborated with colleagues to perform the works of André Jolivet, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Clara Schumann, Justinian Tamusuza, André Previn, Valerie Coleman, Ludwig van Beethoven, Francis Poulenc, Joseph Canteloube, Heinrich Molbe, and others.

A firm believer in sharing his passion for music through education, Schuyler frequently works with young musicians through youth orchestra masterclasses, orchestral and chamber music coaching sessions, side-by-side rehearsals and performances, and private lessons. Schuyler has performed educational concerts at public and private schools in the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area as a part of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s educational concert series and throughout the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area as a part of the Minnesota Orchestra’s Kinder Konzert series. With over 12 years of teaching experience, Schuyler has given masterclasses at the University of Maryland School of Music and at The Hartt School at the University of Hartford. Additionally, he has taught for The Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestra, Academy, OrchKids, and OrchLab programs, and previously served on the bassoon faculty at Baltimore School for the Arts. Schuyler has helped students gain acceptance into Boston University’s Tanglewood Institute, NYO2, regional, and all-state ensembles, and has had students go on to study music at the collegiate level at the Curtis Institute of Music and Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music.

Though he spent much of his childhood years moving around the country from Michigan to Arizona, Wisconsin, Tennessee, and Connecticut, Schuyler began his bassoon studies at the age of 12 while living in Wisconsin. Schuyler continued his studies and went on to earn a Bachelor of Music in Bassoon Performance from The Hartt School in 2013, where he was a member of the full scholarship honors chamber music program, Performance 2020. Schuyler then began a Masters Degree in Orchestral Performance at Manhattan School of Music and won an audition a year into his degree at the age of 22 for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. While pursuing his degrees, Schuyler was selected as a bassoon fellowship recipient for the National Repertory Orchestra, New York String Orchestra Seminar, Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, and National Orchestral Institute. His principal teachers include Marc Goldberg, Roger Nye, Rebecca Noreen, Judith Buttery, James Lotz, and Hunter Thomas.

When he’s not making music, Schuyler enjoys getting into mischief with his great friend and colleague, BSO Oboist Michael Lisicky, playing retro video games, and riding his bike. He makes his home in the Lauraville neighborhood of Baltimore with his wife, flutist Megan Natoli and their two cats Wolfie and Berlioz.
